Herbal Pain Relief History

Herbal pain relief is the oldest form of remedy for the common ailments. It dates back to thousands years ago. The use of herbs has been used in history by various groups and cultures as a form of pain relief. Many of the medicinal uses of plants and herbs were developed by accident. Indigenous healers tested with different herbs and plants to develop simple cures that would heal their people.

One of the first people to use herbs in the form of medicine was the Sumerians. The Sumerians used different types of plants as a form of herbal relief. The Chinese are credited with developing one of the first herbal medicine book. The book lists several hundred plants and their uses as a form herbal pain relief. The use of Ma Huang (also known as ephedra) as a form of pain relief is credited to the Chinese emperor Shen Nog.

Many cultures from the Middle East have a long standing record of herbs used as medicine. The ancient cultures of Egypt and India used many plants as a form of pain relief from herbs. The use of simple plants and herbs were used to treat simple ailments such as digestive problems, stress, or constipation.

The knowledge from herbal pain relief has been used here in the West to develop highly powerful pharmaceutical grade drugs. Many of the new drugs that hit the market have their roots to simple plants. As much as one-quarter of the drugs that are manufactured by the major pharmaceutical companies have their roots in plants and herbs.

In recent history, various methods have been developed to take advantage of these plants. We now have ways to extract and manufacture the active components in these plants. The use of herbs has come a long way from the earliest time when simple plants and herbs were used to to bring about pain relief.
