The use of plants and herbs to treat many common ailments does bring about concerns of their safety. Many of the big drug companies go through extensive and time-consuming trials to determine their safety levels before using such plants. The use of plants as a form of herbal pain relief does introduce issues that need to be addressed.
Although many people believe that since the plants are natural they possess no harm to them. That is in fact a misconception that is widely believed by many. Herbal medicine can affect in ways that one may not be aware of. They can interfere with other medications that a person is taking thus affecting its purpose. This can either decrease the effects or in some cases increase it to dangerous levels. Many of the herbs can interfere with body’s own molecules and enzymes. Since the purity of many plants and herbs are not known they can have an adverse side effect on the person. Several herbs are known to decrease one’s blood pressure to very dangerous levels while others can do the opposite. In some instances, some herbs are known to bring about cardiac arrest within minutes of taking them.
They are probably thousands of plants and herbs that possess healing properties. These can cure the common pains such as headaches to treating life-threatening forms of cancer. However, care should be taken to decipher which ones can be beneficial from ones that can have negative effects. Further testing needs to be done to make sure that those plants and herbs used by consumers are safe and effective. Herbal pain relief when administered properly can do wonders for those for which no other methods are available or successful.
